Committee leadership

The Lagoon Committee was established in 2016 to implement the goals of the cattail removal pilot project. The committee consists of a diverse group of community members that view the Lagoon as an asset to Humboldt Park and the surrounding neighborhood. Each individual has a different background and expertise that enticed them to be engaged members. The members are actively involved in strategizing, seeking funding, advocating; and improving the water habitat quality of the lagoon. The mission of the committee is to restore the lagoon by improving the water quality and surrounding habitat to benefit all (aquatic) wildlife and to increase public access to enjoy the pleasure of the lagoon and its inhabitants. To join the Lagoon Committee please attend our monthly meetings or contact Tim Richter @ XXXXXX if you have any questions or concerns. Visit HPF website or Facebook for updates regarding the Lagoon Committee and the pilot program.

Where: Humboldt Park Pavilion When: 3rd Monday of every month @ 6:00 PM -7:00 PM

Meet the Members: (Potential information to include about members): when did you get involved? What is your background/where are you employed/information that qualifies you to be a member (ie. Retired from the water world, Community advocate)? Why did you get involved? What do you love about the lagoon or pilot project?

Jane LeCapitaine (2016)–Retired from United Water Services, a Humboldt Park Friends board member. When I retired I wanted to maintain my level of community and environmental involvement. By becoming a member as well as a board member with HPF, I could fulfill that desire as well as continue the legacies of folks like Ruth Simos, John and Penny Manke, Lurae and Terry Brower who gave so much time and energy to preserving Humboldt Park. The lagoon is need of restoration, what would Humboldt Park be without the lagoon.

Joanna Demas (2017)—Land Manager at River Revitalization Foundation. I chose to get involved with HPF Lagoon Committee because I value high quality urban greenspaces. I love to walk my dogs around the lagoon and through the entire park while I bird and enjoy the colors and texture of the plants.
